My Story

My journey into the Wellness Industry started in 2009. Fascinated by the possibility that the entire body and bodily systems were mapped on the feet, along with the suggestion that you could impact our bodily systems through careful foot manipulation, and massage, led to my decision to study reflexology at night school.

Fortunately part of the learning was to receive treatments from fellow students. A few months into the course I suddenly realised I was sleeping soundly, deeply and for longer than usual. Forever the light sleeper and always experiencing difficulty getting to sleep had become a thing of the past.

Seeing the dramatic changes and impact of this relaxing treatment on myself, and furthermore my clients, I knew I had to be part of this industry.

My first 12 months as a reflexologist centered on treatments for pregnant friends. Spending time with them throughout their pregnancy opened my eyes to the changes they were undergoing each week. Each appointment would highlight the impact of pregnancy on the body, not only externally with swelling, aches and pains, but also internally with various hormonal changes and fluctuations

I soon realised that there was not much ‘wellness' care specifically for new mums or women during their pregnancy. At this very special, life changing and often emotional time of any woman's life, I wanted to be able to offer wellness treatments that could only make their journey through pregnancy more enjoyable. Focusing on treatments for prenatal women has been my priority. I was always sad not to see these clients as much after the birth of their newborns, as their time was squeezed juggling the new demands of their baby with day-to-day life.

This motivated me to become an infant massage instructor allowing me to continue my professional relationship and give them a skill that could make a real difference to the new bonds they were forming with their baby. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing the bond grow and develop between parents and their new arrivals with the support of infant massage.

I also wanted to offer post-natal massage to help restore the body back to health as quickly as possible, which took me to Bali, Indonesia...

I immersed myself for 2 months in Bali, a country that has embraced massage for centuries. Over a thousand years ago, merchant ships regularly travelled through the Spice Islands - modern day Indonesia.

Hindus from India brought healing massage techniques, oil massage as well as herbal treatments, and Buddhists from China brought acupressure techniques.

The Indonesians observed and selected different techniques and developed their own style that has since been handed down from generation to generation. Elements of pressure point massage, acupressure and reflexology can be clearly identified in most Indonesian massages.

It is the belief in Indonesia that massage helps the body eliminate disease, regain balance, and ensures continued good health, it is their first point of medical care. Learning and adopting different techniques from Balinese men and women who have healing in their ancestral lineage, was one of the most humbling experiences of my life. I'm committed to giving prefessional treatments that reflect their rich culture anchored in respect. The Hidden Sanctuary's treatments combine awareness of the mind, body and spirit so to balance the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of life.

There are so many great things that massage can give a person, each treatment has a plethora of different benefits however rest assured that each treatment technique will betailored for your specific wants and needs. Our philosophy is centered on the belief that touch is a vital ingredient to everyday living; healing touch should be enjoyed both for relaxation and health. So why not take a few minutes to leave the cares of the world behind and indulge your senses at The Hidden Sanctuary.
